Read, you must read every day. If you don't read every day you are functionally illiterate as Ryan Holiday commented.
Our days are filled with events every second. Unfortunately, you have to make impressions on what you perceive.
Decisions, judgments, or opinions are always influenced by something, some sort of input.
This is where reading comes in, if you don't read what input will influence your judgments to filter what to act on or not to act?
You have to accept or decline any impressions. Reading gives you an edge, and confidence to judge based on facts otherwise you will be doomed by ignorance that leads to panic and suffering.
Reading is healing and reading is life, this idea is echoed when Epictetus touched on the source of human suffering:
“What upsets people is not things themselves but their judgments about the things.” - how are your judgments influenced? Read, to make sound judgments.
He also warned us about reading aimlessly, "Reading should serve the goal of attaining peace; if it doesn't make you peaceful, what good it is?
He went on to ask "Isn't reading a kind of preparation for life?
